Breed : Ferret (cross with wild polecat)
Info : Hoo is a lovely fun and vivacious little character, who likes nothing more than to play. He was born in April 2013 to a ferret mom, who had escaped her enclosure (at Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom) and returned pregnant. From the markings and behaviours of Hoo and his siblings, dad was determined to be a wild polecat. He was born with a club foot – a vet determined that a fleshy lump between his toes was a birth defect. It gives him no pain and does not stop him being a ferret – just makes him that bit more lovable and special. Its good to be different
Hoo will become a fine therapy animal one day, and is now starting his apprenticeship as a co-counsellor. Training a therapy animal can take a good while, and he may not be ready for a good 6 months or so.
Benefits : A ferret makes a great therapy animal, as they are very intelligent animals. They are playful and vibrant, never failing to raise a smile and a laugh, and can be trained to walk on a leash. At times they enjoy cuddles, and will do almost anything for a treat. Hoo will be a great therapy animal, for those who want to see that they are not alone in terms of disability – it even crosses the species and will give an affinity of others, and a great feeling of self worth
